Dear all,
Rest day at the Tour de France. Already an all-out amazing edition, and I can’t wait for the riders to hit the heights in the next two weeks. No rest over here, though. This week’s cultural breakaway has every chance of going all the way to the finish line:
📰 “Good work should do at least one of these things: fund the life you actually want to live, align with values you can defend at dinner parties, surround you with people who challenge you to grow, or teach you skills that compound like interest over decades. Great work does several of these at once.”
If that resonates, read Why We Are Lying To Young People About Work? by fellow Substacker
🎶 If I ever got cornered into making a playlist to convert people - and especially kids - to classical music, I’d obviously start with Mozart. But probably not with Eine kleine Nachtmusik, which is now firmly reserved for commercials, elevators, and phone hold lines.
Although nobody asked, here’s my first attempt: 25 instrumental pieces in under 10 minutes each by 25 fairly famous composers, yet none of their overplayed party tricks. Buon divertimento!
Enjoy them on Apple Music, too!
🎥 This week, Masters of the Air are on screen. Episode 6 is my favorite so far, it has the full range of emotions waiting for you, just like operas used to. As if further proof were needed: Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks still know how to deliver.
New recommendations next Tuesday!
